The Authority is a Crown entity, responsible for the safety and security of New Zealand’s civil aviation system. The Authority has two business arms – the security arm (the Aviation Security Service) which provides aviation security services at airports across New Zealand and the regulatory arm, which is responsible for the safety oversight of the civil aviation system.
About the role
The regulatory arm, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), is looking for a highly experienced, credible and respected pilot to join our specialist flight operations team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant personal contribution to aviation safety and standards in New Zealand.
As an Air Transport Inspector you will use advanced risk management frameworks to inform evidence-based operational decisions and judgments. This role gives you an opportunity to apply an inquisitive, professional and rigorous approach to problem solving and risk identification including flight inspections and the examination of pilots in aircraft and flight simulators. In addition, you will be required to develop and maintain strong relationships with senior airline leaders as you represent the CAA risk-based approach to safety and surveillance.
You will be respected for your successful career in commercial aviation and will be extremely competent in all aspects of modern jet operations, systems, equipment, standards and practices, preferably on Boeing or Airbus aircraft. You will be recognised for your effective team contributions, high standards and a professional approach to aviation safety, and training. To be successful in this role you:
- Must hold or have recently held an ATPL (preferably with ratings on Boeing or Airbus large turbine powered aircraft equipped with EFIS and advanced systems); and excellent written, presentation and critical reasoning skills.
Will ideally have:
- Extensive experience as a Jet pilot
- Check and/or training experience with an airline or equivalent operation
- Experience of Safety Management Systems (SMS) or Quality Management Systems (QMS), Line Operations Safety Audits (LOSA), Flight Operations Quality Audits (FOQA), Aviation Human Factors.
This role requires occasional travel within New Zealand and overseas.
